Its Your Fault

News today is that NBC will not be running a Seinfeld episode where Kraemer stomps on a Puerto Rican flag, following complaints that it's offensive to Puerto Ricans.

Hang on

Get a grip. Seinfeld is quite clearly a comedy and the episode in question didn't even come close to hinting at dislike for Puerto Rico. For those that haven't seen the show, or the episode, Kraemer is excited to see a Puerto Rican-day parade and accidently lights the flag he brought along on fire in Jerry's car and tries to put it out. Physical comedy ensures as Michael Richards tries to stomp out the fire in front of a bunch of Puerto Ricans who assume the worst and take after him. How this can possibly be offending is beyond me, and NBC is taking the wrong approach by pulling the episode.

Epidemic

Just about anything is probably offensive to someone. The simple fact that you, or even a large gaggle of your friends, are offended doesn't mean the offender is to blame. Take a step back. Count to ten. Think it through. Take a look at the recently offended in the Taco Bell ad campaign: a Mexican food chain uses a small dog as their mascot and gives it (ready?) a Mexican accent. Sound bad? Well, apparently a very vocal minority thought so. Of course, their offense must be the fault of Taco Bell; sue, sue, sue.

The truth is stupid

I've been looking for an excuse to use that for a title and it finally works; the fact is, too many people sue too many other people (or otherwise blame them) for their own problems. Suck it up and live with a little "hardship".
