Mt. Assiniboine management plan

Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park in BC is updating their management plan in accordance with minimum and maximum teperature increases due to global warming (among other things). If you would like to comment, you may.

Some years ago, the best mountain bike trail within driving distance (yes, Assiniboine) was closed due to pressure from the horse outfitters who still operate there (the park cited bar encouters as the reason for the exclusion of this one user group). If nothing else, I heartily encourage you to suggest that this horse outfitting operation have their license cancelled. If indeed bear habitat is being affected (and this is the second-largest contiguous piece of grizzly bear habitat left in the Canadian parks, so reducing park use is, IMO, a Good Idea) then it is being affected also by these horse operators, since wildlife in general views people-on-horses as a horse (this is, for example, why it is illegal to hunt from horseback, as you can essentially walk up to a deer and use a Charelton-Heston-approved "hunting handgun" to do the bastard in).

Another thing you might like to mention is the continued existence of the helicopter-accessed backcountry hotel known as Assiniboine Lodge (minimum $440/couple/night + heli flight). This lodge puts more pressure on this area (due to increased backcountry hiking and helicopter traffic 3 days a week) than anything else.
