World amphibian die-off (partially) blamed on 1930's-era pregnancy test?!

``A disease threatening amphibians worldwide may have spread because of the use of frogs in pregnancy tests.''

``The theory is being debated at a summit in Washington DC where scientists hope to produce an action plan to conserve frogs, toads and salamanders.''

[..]

``According to the most recent global assessment, almost a third of this animal grouping - a category that includes frogs, toads, salamanders and caecilians (legless amphibians) - is judged to be at risk of extinction.'' ``[..] The causes [of the extinction] include habitat loss, deforestation, climate change and pollution; but fungal disease is clearly a major and perplexing threat.''

[..]

The frogs were used for tests where a, ``sample of the woman's urine was injected under the [live] frog's skin; if the woman was pregnant, a hormone in her urine caused the frog to ovulate.'' Super. I blame the Bible (``...replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.'' Genesis 1:28)
